What is A Breast Augmentation

What is A Breast Augmentation? – Your Guide to Understanding Breast Implant

Are you considering a breast augmentation procedure but don’t know where to start? You’re not alone. Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, and for good reason – it can help boost confidence and give you a more balanced look.

But before committing to such an important decision, it’s essential that you understand what exactly breast augmentation involves. This guide will provide you with everything you need to know about this common procedure so that you can make an informed choice about whether or not it’s right for you.

Learn all about the different types of implants available, potential risks associated with breast augmentations, and post-operative recovery tips.

Defining Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical process that can be used to enhance the size and shape of breasts. It will not change the overall size of your chest, but it can help improve a woman’s self-esteem and body contour by restoring lost breast volume, balancing asymmetric breasts, or creating a more aesthetically pleasing shape.

The goal of breast augmentation is to look as natural as possible while still achieving desired fullness in the upper part of the breasts. The implant selection must be based on your preferences and individual anatomy.

There are also non-surgical breast augmentation options available, like fat transfer, which involves harvesting fat from another area of the body and injecting it into the breasts for an augmented look.

Ultimately, it is important to understand that any breast augmentation procedure should be done in order to achieve body satisfaction, not out of pressure from anyone else.

Reasons People Opt for Breast Augmentations

Many people choose breast augmentation for a variety of reasons. As a common type of cosmetic surgery that uses breast implants or fat transfer for breast enlargement or reshaping breasts, many women opt to enhance their natural body shape and feel more confident in clothes that they wouldn’t previously have worn.

For others, breast implant surgery can restore breasts to their pre-pregnancy shape or size after the strain and changes that come with having children. While some women have breast implants as part of reconstruction after breast cancer surgery.

Regardless of the motivation for seeking out this procedure, breast augmentation can help many women achieve greater body confidence.

The Different Types of Breast Implants Available

When considering breast augmentation, patients have a variety of implant options to choose from. Breast implants can come in saline or silicone implants, both of which are designed to look and feel natural while lasting over many years. In addition, there are differences in size and shape that allow a better tailor-made fit for each patient.

Saline-filled implants

Saline-filled implants typically have an adjustable saltwater solution inside and can be filled with doctors during their office visits.

Silicone-filled implants

Silicone-filled implants contain a silicone gel material that tends to simulate the natural breast tissue more than saline.

Implants may also come in varieties, such as smooth or textured, which allow for different sensations depending on our patient’s goals. To understand more about your various options and make the best decision regarding a breast implant for you, please consult with your doctor about the best choice for you.

What to Expect Before, During, and After the Surgery

It helps to know what to expect from the breast implant procedure if you’re considering going through this journey:

Preparation

Before the surgery, you will meet with your surgeon for an initial consultation to discuss the size and placement of implants. During these meetings, make sure to ask questions and voice any concerns you have about breast augmentation. In preparation for the procedure itself, patients should avoid smoking and taking certain medications prior to the operation.

During the Surgery

During breast augmentation, general anaesthesia is used while the surgeon makes an incision in either the breast tissue or armpit where the implants will be inserted.

After the Surgery

Afterwards, patients can expect swelling in their breast region as well as soreness that usually fades within a few weeks.

It is important for patients to take it easy afterwards and follow their doctor’s instructions for recovery, which likely includes wearing a compression bra and limiting any physical activity that may increase breast movement in order for scarring to heal properly.

Recovery Time and Possible Side Effects

Breast augmentation recovery time can vary from person to person and depends on a number of different factors. Some people take as little as one week to feel nearly back to normal, while for others, the recovery period can extend up to 6 weeks.

Knowing your own body is key to managing breast augmentation recovery time correctly. Therefore, it is important to follow the doctor’s recommended instructions in order to maximise the healing process and avoid any potential side effects of breast augmentation surgery.

Always reach out to your cosmetic surgeon if you have any questions about breast augmentation recovery time or possible side effects along the way.

Risks and Complications

Breast augmentations are a popular way to alter the size and shape of one’s breasts. However, it is important to understand the possible risks and complications associated with the procedure.

Although rare, in some cases, breast augmentation can lead to infection, tissue necrosis (tissue death), or even implant rejection. In addition, complications such as asymmetry, reduced feeling, or loss of nerve function may occur, while scarring and potential changes in chest shape related to implant leakage can also be a factor.

If a sheet of scar tissue called a ‘capsule’ forms to encase the implant. In some cases, this fibrous material will tighten around the implant and cause it to become harder while altering its shape, leading to breast distortion months or even years after surgery.

Conclusion

Breast augmentation is a decision that should not be taken lightly. There are many things to consider before making the choice to get breast implants, such as why you want them, what type of implants you want, and what the surgery will entail.

It is necessary to do your research and consult with a professional before making any decisions. At Refine Clinic, we are dedicated to helping our patients make the best choices for their bodies.

We offer consultations with our experienced surgeons, who can answer any questions you may have about breast augmentation. Contact us today to learn more about this life-changing procedure.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips from a cosmetic Surgeon

Recovering from breast augmentation surgery can be made more comfortable with the right preparation. While most women start to feel more like themselves after the first-week post-surgery, the official recovery timeline is six weeks. Following the advice of your cosmetic surgeon can help to speed up your healing. Try these breast augmentation recovery tips to make your post-operative period more comfortable.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips For A Speedier Recovery

Get Some Help Around The House

The key to a successful recovery is getting enough rest and getting enough rest after your breast augmentation surgery is essential. Make sure you have done your grocery shopping before your surgery and your house is stocked up with nutritious food and ideally, ready-made meals. While you do need to eat nutritious meals and drink plenty of water, you also need to rest and sleep so if you can package any of your meals ahead of time, it’s a good idea to do it.

You will be told to avoid driving and heavy lifting for at least six weeks, so you may need to range for someone to help you around the house for the initial recovery period.

Get Lots Of Sleep

Sleep is the best medicine so get as much of it as you can in the days following your surgery. You will have to sleep on your back or your side while you recover. It’s also a good idea to keep your body as elevated as possible so stack a few pillows up to lean on while you heal.

Take Your Medication As Directed

The first three days after breast augmentation surgery are usually the most uncomfortable and any pain or discomfort you feel should start to improve after this.

breast augmentation recovery guide bondi junctionMake sure you take the pain medication that has been prescribed to help you with pain, swelling, and nausea.

Many women find they can switch to over-the-counter pain medication after the first few days but taking the prescribed medication on schedule can make the first few days much more tolerable.

Be Patient

While the worst of the swelling should improve in the first week, you may have some swelling present for months after your breast augmentation surgery. It could take a couple of months before your breasts’ final size, shape and position are evident. One of our biggest tips is to be patient and have faith in your body and the work of your surgeon.

Take A Break From Exercise

Most women can resume light physical exercise two to three weeks after breast augmentation surgery, but make sure you get the go-ahead from your cosmetic surgeon first. Initially, you won’t be able to do heavy lifting or vigorous cardio but you will be able to increase your exertion level as the weeks’ progress. One of our biggest tips is to relax and take the time to recover. Soon you will be able to get back to exercise and fitness.

Practice Wound Care

After your breast augmentation surgery, you will have surgical wounds to care for. Make sure you follow the advice of your cosmetic surgeon to avoid infection and encourage good healing. Wound dressings are usually kept on for the first week, whereafter you will visit your cosmetic surgeon to have them removed. At this appointment, you will be given instructions on how to care for your wounds.

Make Sure You Have The Right Support

Recovery bras offer you the best level of support when recovering from breast augmentation surgery so wear them all the time. Do not wear underwire bras for at least 12 weeks after your surgery. Wearing a recovery bra helps to reduce swelling and boost recovery. They improve circulation, make breast implants more stable, and provide mild compression to facilitate better lymph drainage

One of our best breast augmentation recovery tips is to consider investing in button-down shirts, which are more comfortable as you don’t have to pull them over your head to wear them.

Contact Your cosmetic Surgeon Immediately If You Have Concerns

Being informed is an important part of your recovery. You need to understand which warning signs to watch out for so you know when to contact your surgeon. Any sign of infection or bleeding under the skin should be reported to your surgeon immediately. If you develop a fever or nausea, you should also notify your surgeon as soon as possible.

Eat Nutritious Food And Stay Hydrated

While you probably won’t have much of an appetite on the day of your surgery, it’s important to eat nutritious food to fuel your recovery. Make sure you eat small, frequent meals that are nutrient-dense to support your recovery. This is important when you are taking pain medication, as it shouldn’t be taken on an empty stomach.

Include fibre-rich foods in your diet, as constipation often follows surgical procedures. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as these can contribute to swelling, but make sure you drink plenty of water.

Breast augmentation is a major surgical procedure but working with an experienced and well-qualified surgeon and doing the relevant preparation is key to a successful outcome. For more breast augmentation recovery tips please call us: (02) 8599 7161.

What Types of Breast Augmentation Are Available?

In Australia, there are two types of breast augmentation surgery that are most commonly performed: saline implants and silicone breast implants. However there are a few different ways that the implants can be placed, and this approach is best determined by your cosmetic surgeon and based on your lifestyle needs and individual risk factors. Let’s take a look at the types of breast augmentation that may be performed and how they might suit you.

Understanding Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is a surgical procedure performed to increase the size of the breasts, using breast implants. Breast augmentation could be the procedure for you if you would like to

  • Increase the size or proportion of small breasts
  • Make asymmetrical breasts even
  • Reconstruct your breast after an injury or mastectomy
  • Restore volume to your breasts after weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding

If you have excess skin on your breasts, usually as a result of weight loss, breastfeeding or pregnancy, and you want to position them higher, a breast lift can be performed to remove the extra skin.

Understanding How Breast Implants Work In Augmentation Surgery

Saline Breast Implants

Saline implants are filled with saltwater. While they do not feel as natural as silicone implants, in the event that they do rupture or leak, the saline solution will be reabsorbed by your body.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone implants are constructed from silicone gel. In the event of a leak, the silicone content could stay inside the implant shell or leak out. It is advisable to have silicone implants checked by your cosmetic surgeon regularly, to ensure they are intact. Silicone implants resemble breast tissue more closely.

breast augmentation types bondi junctionWhen you work with an experienced and skilled cosmetic surgeon, he or she will look at your frame and body proportions to find the breast implant size that best suits you.

There are practical implications associated with large breast implants, and they may not work for you. Your surgeon will discuss the pros and cons of different cup sizes with you prior to your procedure.

Positioning Breast Implants

There are a number of different ways to place breast implants and the different types of breast augmentation should be discussed with your surgeon beforehand, to determine the best solution for you.

Submammary or sub-glandular

With this placement, the implant is positioned between the pectoral muscles and breast tissue. This placement is favoured because it results in perkier breasts and a fuller bust. It can also facilitate a speedier recovery.

Inframammary

This means that incisions will be made along the natural creases of your breast tissue and any scars are well hidden. The inframammary placement allows your cosmetic surgeon to place the implants with greater precision and is a popular choice among patients.

Submuscular

With a submuscular procedure, the implants are placed beneath your pectoral muscles. This placement allows us to use bigger or more voluminous implants, however, the recovery period is often longer.

Transaxillary

A transaxillary breast augmentation is carried out when patients are prone to bad scarring. It allows your surgeon to make an incision in your underarm area so that the skin on your breasts is not scarred. It is often adopted for patients who choose teardrop breast implants

Periareolar

During a periareolar procedure, the incision is made on the areola and produces less scarring. While this is a favourable outcome for most patients, it can lead to decreased sensitivity in the nipples afterwards. It is a good approach for patients who want to change the size or shape of their nipples at the same time as having a breast augmentation.

Is A Breast Augmentation The Right Procedure For You?

Breast augmentation could be appropriate if you

  • Understand the procedure and have realistic expectations of what it can achieve
  • Have fully developed breasts
  • The size of your breasts bothers you
  • Want to make your breasts more symmetrical
  • Have lost volume in your breasts as a result of breastfeeding, pregnancy or weight loss
  • Are in good physical health
  • Are a non-smoker
  • Have thought about the procedure, its pros and cons and discussed it at length with your cosmetic surgeon.

A breast augmentation may not be suitable for you if

  • You have a condition that causes excessive bleeding or bruising
  • You are allergic to anaesthetic
  • You have an unmanaged or chronic illness

Your cosmetic surgeon will discuss your surgery risks and take your full medical history before proceeding. It is important to tell your surgeon about any drugs or chronic medication you are using.

It’s worth understanding that implants do not last forever and will need to be removed or replaced when they reach the end of their lifespan. For most patients, this is between 10 and 20 years. Some of the events that indicate your implants have reached the end of their lifespan include

  • A ruptured implant
  • Hardening of the breast tissue around the implant
  • A change in the position of the implant
  • Visible rippling on your breast tissue

Regular checkups can give you peace of mind that your implants are in good working condition.

Breast Augmentation Recovery: Heal Faster with These Tips

Having breast augmentation surgery requires a great deal of pre-and post-operative planning in order to recover properly. By keeping yourself as healthy as possible before the procedure and following your surgeon’s breast augmentation recovery tips you can heal up your recovery time. Let’s take a look at the breast augmentation recovery timeline and what you might expect after getting breast implants.

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase or enhance the size of your breasts using breast implants. It is performed under general anaesthetic. On average you can expect a six to eight-week recovery timeline.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Timeline

24-Hours After The Surgery

Once the anaesthetic has worn off you will experience pain in your chest, nausea, tiredness and sensitivity in your breasts. There will also be swelling and bruising that will improve over time. You must arrange for someone else to drive you home afterwards.

The first 24-hours after having your breast implants are the most uncomfortable period, but you will be given pain medication and muscle relaxants to help you through it. Once your muscles have stretched, you should not feel pain anymore. Your surgeon will instruct you on how to care for your incision sites. It’s likely that your breasts will be taped to your chest

Five To Seven Days After The Procedure

During the first week, it is normal to experience discomfort and pain but it should be easy to relieve with medication and should be less intense as time passes.

breast augmentation after care and recovery bondi junctionYou will be advised to avoid heavy lifting or postures that require you to lift your arms above your head.

Shirts that button down the front is much easier to put on and take off, and don’t require you to lift your arms above your head.

By this time, your breast implants will start settling into their new positions. If your surgeon has shown you how to massage them, you should continue to do this throughout the week.

This will improve swelling and help you to relax your chest muscles.

Three To Four Weeks Later

By the third and fourth week following your breast implants, you should feel very little discomfort and pain however it’s possible you may still have some bruising.

At this stage, you may be able to resume light exercise. It’s a good idea to wear a surgical bra, to give you extra support. They have clasps on the front of the bra, which makes them easier to remove.

Four To Six Weeks Later

By this point, most patients have achieved full recovery and can return to their daily activities.  You will probably visit your cosmetic surgeon for a follow-up appointment around this point. Most patients have healed six weeks after surgery.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation: Tips For Faster Healing

By following these breast augmentation tips, you may be able to facilitate a faster recovery

Make sure you wear a recovery bra

Recovery bras are easy to put on and take off and provide additional support that helps with a speedier delivery. Wear one for as long as possible.

Take your pain medication as required

Your medication can make recovery a more bearable process so take it as needed. The pain and discomfort should improve as you get used to your breast implants, but the medication can make the healing process much easier on you.

Take it easy on exercise for a few weeks

It’s advisable to avoid vigorous activities that cause your blood pressure to spike during your recovery. Your cosmetic surgeon will let you know when you can resume exercise.

Take good care of your incision sites

Before you leave the surgery, your cosmetic surgeon will explain how to look after your incision sites. Make sure you follow the advice and apply the ointment or bandage to your breasts as directed.

Make sure your home is ready for your arrival

Get your home ready ahead of time by ensuring you have a comfortable spot to recover in. get some help around the house to keep it clean and have home-cooked meals every day. If possible, make a few home-cooked meals and freeze them. Eating a healthy diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals can make recovery go faster.

Do not smoke

Smoking interferes with your body’s ability to heal and can slow the process down. It can also make you more susceptible to infection. It’s advisable to quit at least a few weeks before your surgery, and you definitely should not smoke during your recovery period.

What To Look Out For After Breast Implants

If your breasts look red, feel warm to the touch and you have a fever you must notify your cosmetic surgeon as this could be a sign of an infection that needs treatment.

Any worsening pain or swelling should also be discussed with your surgeon.

Make sure you keep all your follow up appointments during recovery after breast augmentation so your surgeon can ensure you are reaching your recovery goals.

To find out more about how to speed up your breast augmentation recovery it’s best to speak to a professional. Please contact us for a confidential appointment: (02) 8599 7161.

Breast Augmentation Recovery – Your Timeline After Surgery

If you’re planning a breast augmentation you’ll need to factor in planning for your recovery. A mammoplasty is a major surgery that will take you some time to recover from. Understanding the recovery timeline can help you to prepare physically and mentally for the procedure, and how to spot the early signs of complications. Let’s take a closer look at what to expect during breast augmentation recovery.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation: The Timeline

On average you can expect a six to eight week recovery period after your mammoplasty. Everyone is different and heals at a different pace, so your timeline may look a little different.

What To Expect Post-Surgery?

Your mammoplasty will be performed under anaesthesia so you should not feel any discomfort until after it has worn off. When you wake up you’re likely to feel disoriented and tired, and your chest muscles may feel stretched and tight. Muscle aches in your chest should dissipate as the muscle stretches. You may feel nauseous as a result of the anaesthesia, and some pain as the anaesthetic wears off.

Most patients will be allowed to go home after their surgery, but before that, your chest will be bandaged to give your breasts support. Before you are discharged your cosmetic surgeon will explain how to care for your wounds.

The side effects to expect

You will have bruising and swelling in your chest after your procedure. This should improve in the days after the surgery but you will need to take pain medication as prescribed to keep it manageable. Muscle relaxants may also be prescribed to ease muscle aches.

Five To Seven Days After Your Breast Augmentation

It’s normal to still experience a small amount of bleeding three to fives day post-op. If there is an increase in bleeding or if you have any concerns, you must contact your surgeon straight away.

Once the first week has passed, your pain should have eased and should be mild. By this stage, you probably won’t need pain relief anymore. At the end of the first week, you should be able to resume your day-to-day activities but you won’t be able to exercise yet. Avoid lifting your arms above your head, or doing any activity that puts your incisions under pressure.

Your surgeon will have shown you how to massage your breast tissue to reduce swelling. It’s important that you continue to do this even if the swelling is visibly better.

Three To Four Weeks After Surgery

By this point, pain and swelling should have improved and should be very mild. You may still have visible bruising but it should look better. You should still wear a post-surgical bra for added support during this time.

Your surgeon may also give you the go-ahead at this stage to do some light exercise but you must avoid anything too vigorous.

After about two months you will be on your way to full breast augmentation recovery but you may still have some discomfort, bruising and swelling.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Tips

You can take more control over your recovery after breast augmentation by following your surgeon’s breast augmentation recovery tips closely, and by considering this advice:

Rest is the best medicine

Having the chance to rest and sleep can fast track your recovery. Block at least three weeks out of your schedule so that you can take the time to heal. You will have to avoid exercise for at least two to three weeks and when you resume physical activity, it will need to be gradual and under the supervision of your surgeon.

Take good care of your incisions

Your surgeon will explain how to look after your wounds, which may include applying ointment or wearing a bandage. Make sure you do this. If necessary, ask someone else for help.

Make sure your home is ready for your arrival

timeline healing breast augmentation bondi junctionDo as much as you can to get your home ready before your surgery. Make sure your fridge is stocked up with fresh foods and freeze some home-cooked meals ahead of time so you really can take the opportunity to heal and recover.

If possible get some help at home to lessen your load.

Remember that wholesome real foods (as opposed to convenience foods) can speed up your recovery. Fruit, vegetables and whole grains are full of vitamins and minerals that your body needs for healing.

Wear a recovery bra as directed

Recovery bras have been purpose-built to help you recover after surgery by offering added support.

Make sure you have loose-fitting clothing

Loose clothing that doesn’t restrict your breasts is recommended for recovery after a breast augmentation. Consider button-up tops, which don’t have to be put on over your head, and which you can leave unbuttoned if you need to.

Take your prescribed medication

Medication for pain and swelling makes the recovery much more bearable. You can also use small iced compresses to relieve bruising and swelling, just make sure they aren’t too heavy on your breasts.

For more personalised advice on breast augmentation recovery, it’s best to speak to a professional, who can help you develop a recovery plan. Please contact us for a confidential appointment: (02) 8599 7161

Breast Implants Recovery Explained – Heal Faster After Surgery

A breast augmentation is a major surgical procedure that requires a great deal of pre-surgical planning. Following your cosmetic surgeon’s medical advice and taking care of yourself will help you to heal and recover quicker. On average you can expect a six to eight week recovery period, but everybody is different and your timeline might look slightly different. Let’s consider the factors that influence breast implants recovery.

What Influences Your Breast Implants Recovery?

Every person heals at a different rate, and there are variables such as the size and location of the breast implants, the type of breast implant and the skill level of your cosmetic surgeon to take into account.

Breast Implants Recovery: What Your Timeline Could Look Like

24-hours after your breast implant surgery

After your surgery, you will recover in a post-operative room until the anaesthetic has worn off. This may take a few hours so it is important that someone else is available to drive you home afterwards. Your breasts will be strapped to your chest to provide support during healing.

Following the operation and after the anaesthetic effects have subsided you are likely to experience

  • Tightness and soreness
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue

Because of the surgery, you will feel pain and discomfort so you must take the pain relief that has been prescribed for you. You might also experience some light bleeding at the incision sites. If you have any concerns or the bleeding gets worse, be sure to contact your cosmetic surgeon,

Five to seven days after breast implants

You will notice some bruising and swelling, which will fade over time. In the week following your surgery, you will still feel discomfort and pain and will still need to take pain relief when necessary.

By this stage, you will be able to return to your day-to-day norm but you should still avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting.

Your cosmetic surgeon will probably instruct you to massage your breast tissue, which can help to reduce swelling and relax your breast tissue.

Three to four weeks after your breast implant surgery

By this point, you should not feel pain or discomfort any longer. Your bruising and swelling should have gone down but it may still be slightly visible.

By now you will be able to do light exercise and move around but you should still avoid anything too vigorous. A post-surgical bra can help with support and speed up recovery.

Six weeks after a breast implant

By this point, you will have resumed most of your usual activities. Even so, it is still a good idea to avoid strenuous exercise. Your breasts should look and feel different and you will be ready to have your check-up with your surgeon.

What Are The Possible Side Effects After Breast Implant Surgery

All surgeries pose some risk. When you have breast implant surgery you have the general side effects such as bleeding, scarring, infections of the incisions, or complications related to the anaesthesia, in addition to those that are specific to breast implants:

  • Breast shape changes due to scarring timeline for recovery breast implant bondi junction
  • Pain or numbness in the breasts
  • Asymmetrical breasts
  • Dissatisfaction with the procedure
  • Changes to the appearance of your nipples
  • Wrinkling of the skin covering your breast implant
  • Incorrect implant placement
  • Development of fluid
  • A rupture or leak in the implant
  • Breast implant illness

Most patients can expect an approximate eight to ten-year lifespan from implants before they need to be removed or replaced.

Breast Implants Recovery: How To Accelerate Healing

A successful breast augmentation is highly dependent on how well you recover and heal after the surgery. There are steps you can take to speed the process up

Make sure your home is ready for your post-surgical arrival

Being prepared means you have less to do in recovery and you can focus on healing. Make sure you have lots of nutritious food, and that it is prepared or have someone available to help you.

Use a recovery bra

Recovery bras are designed to speed up healing, manage swelling and pain.

Take your medication

Taking pain relief can ensure you get restful sleep and that you are comfortable during recovery.

Care for your wounds

Follow your surgeon’s advice to care for your incisions. You may need to apply cream or bandages.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing

Make sure you have ops that you can open and close down the front because lifting your arms up is not comfortable.

Your pre-operative state can affect how quickly you heal. You should try to enter surgery being relatively fit. If you are a smoker, you must quit well before your surgery as it does compromise the speed with which you can heal and makes you more susceptible to infection. Follow all of your surgeon’s pre-surgical instructions, including discontinuing certain medications.

Make sure you go into the surgery with a realistic expectation of what can be achieved and remember that there is always the chance that secondary or revisional surgery may be required to achieve your desired result.

In Search of the Perfect Breast Shape for Your Body Type?

The ‘perfect breast shape’ is highly subjective, and always depends on your body frame and size. Determining what the right breast shape for your body is, is something you will determine through a consultation with your cosmetic surgeon. Getting the breast shape you want could involve a combination of breast implants or a breast reduction and a breast lift. At Refine Clinic we work closely with our clients on deciding how to have perfect breast shape, for confidence and improved quality of life.

Breast surgery is a highly personalised experience that requires a close working relationship between patient and cosmetic surgeon. While you may think that a certain celebrity or famous person has the ideal breast shape, that size or shape may not compliment your body type or frame.

The size and shape of your natural breasts may be influenced by factors like

  • Natural ageing

One of the consequences of ageing is volume loss and sagging of the breast tissue.

  • Weight gain or weight loss

Weight loss often is generally not localised and can cause volume loss in the breasts.

  • Hormone fluctuations

Hormonal fluctuations that increase and decrease the size of the breasts can cause the skin to sag.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause significant changes to the breast tissue, stretching the breasts. A breast lift may assist in restoring elasticity and firmness. You should consider your family planning needs, however, and only opt for breast surgery once you do not plan to have any more children.

During a consultation with your cosmetic surgeon, you can discuss the changes you would like to make, and get a professional opinion on what could work best for your breasts.

Breast Augmentation With Implants

Breast implants are a popular way to change the size and shape of a woman’s breasts, and surgical techniques have improved vastly over the last few decades to make the end result look more natural.

Breast implants are typically divided into two main categories: teardrop and round implants. Both implant types can alter the shape of your breast in different ways.

categories perfect breast shape sydneyRound Shaped Breast Implants

Round breast implants can add volume and fullness to the breast. They are helpful to create an asymmetrical shape. They are also quite versatile and can be used in a variety of different cases. Round breast implants create a natural look when they are well done and can help patients achieve a more voluminous cleavage. Because of their round shape, rotation and movement is not usually an issue with this implant shape.

Teardrop Shaped Implants

Teardrop implants are designed to create the shape of the fall of the breast, with less volume at the top of the implant than at the bottom. They do need to be pre-filled and it is possible for them to move around in the breast later, which may cause a less symmetrical result. Teardrop-shaped implants are best suited to women who have less skin and volume on the top of their chests.

A Breast Lift Or Mastopexy Procedure

The ideal breast shape can sometimes be achieved using a combination of breast augmentation and a breast lift. In a breast lift procedure, excess skin and breast tissue can be removed, to firm the cleavage and boost your confidence.

A breast lift may be beneficial if

  • You have lost elasticity in your breast tissue or would like to restore firmness and volume to your breasts
  • Your nipples are pointed downwards. A breast lift and repositioning of your nipple may be beneficial in this case
  • If your nipple is positioned below the crease of your breast (Inframammary fold)
  • If you are not satisfied with the size and shape of your breasts when you wear a bra
  • If your breasts are unusually shaped or asymmetrical.

There are different types of breast lifts, indicated for the degree of sagging you are experiencing. There are breast lift options available for mild to extensive sagging.

Why It’s Essential To Find A Skilled And Experienced cosmetic Surgeon For Your Breast Augmentation?

Even though breast implant and lift surgeries have improved vastly in recent years, all surgeries do carry some lament of risk. And while some pain, bruising and swelling is part of the recovery process, there are some complications and side effects that you should be aware of before moving forward with any breast surgery. These include:

  • Scar tissue or thick scars that do not disappear over time
  • Movement or rotation of the implant
  • Visible wrinkles or creases underneath the skin
  • Rupturing of the implant, which can lead to leakage or damage.

What Can You Expect After Breast Augmentation Surgery?

While most procedures are performed as outpatient procedures, using general or local anaesthesia, you should be able to go home afterwards. Some discomfort and swelling is to be expected, and you should certainly make provision to have an extended rest period afterwards.

You should also prepare to sleep on your back during your recovery period, and you may not be able to resume your usual day-to-day activities for a week or two following the procedure.

It’s highly likely that you won’t be able to return to exercise for the first two to six weeks afterwards, but it is recommended that you do some light walking every day after the first week has passed.

It will probably be about eight weeks before you can expect to wear your underwire bra again.

Why Breast Augmentation In Thailand Can Be Risky

Places like Bali and Thailand make for breathtaking vacation destinations for tourists from all over the world. The rich culture and serene environment are inviting reasons to travel and spend time relaxing alongside the exotic beaches. Many Australians, however, are finding more reasons to travel to Thailand. The cost of procedures like breast augmentation in Thailand is often cheaper. Unfortunately, it is also risky, and many foreign travellers find that undergoing delicate medical procedures, such as cosmetic and cosmetic surgery, can come with many complications.

For most patients, the appeal in medical tourism and travelling for cosmetic surgery lies in the price tag. The cost of a procedure like a breast augmentation is typically cheaper in Thailand than in Australia – but many unfortunate patients have learned that cutting cost can often come with more expensive consequences. Combined with travel costs, accommodations, travel, and aftercare, this can make for a significantly more expensive trip, especially if a patient experiences side effects that require additional care.

If you are in Sydney and considering breast augmentation, Thailand might be much farther than you need to look! At Refine Cosmetic Clinic in Bondi Junction, our highly-qualified surgeons provide customised cosmetic enhancements to help improve and rejuvenate your appearance. Breast augmentation in Thailand may not follow the same stringent rules and regulations as Australian facilities, which could leave patients exposed to surgical risks, in addition to other potential issues.

Considering Breast Augmentation in Thailand?

For many patients, the idea of getting cosmetic surgery in an exotic land will help to aid recovery by offering a relaxing environment where they can heal. While this sounds lovely, it’s also highly impractical! The healing process following a breast augmentation surgery should be spent at home or in a trusted, comfortable location. An unknown hotel or resort in Thailand may not be as safe or have all the resources recommended for a smooth recovery. Exposure to potential dirty or unsanitary areas after breast augmentation in Thailand can also lead to post-op complications.

how much is breast augmentation in thailand breast augmentation thailand bondi junctionPatients who travel back home to Australia too soon after surgery are also at risk, as air travel could put unwanted strain on the recently augmented area. A flight can take up to 9 hours or longer if there are additional stops or holdups. Recovery after breast augmentation requires regular care, including routine cold compresses to help aid healing. This type of strain could potentially extend the healing time or even cause the sutures or implants to burst or develop complications. Plus, if an issue does arise, patients are nearly 5,000 miles away from their primary surgeon.

When considering breast augmentation in Thailand, the first question many people have is how much is breast augmentation in Thailand costing. Unlike a local surgeon, an in-person consultation is usually not an option for surgery overseas, so patients are at a greater risk of getting false information. When researching the cost of breast augmentation, be sure to ask questions about exactly what you are paying for and how your money is being allocated.

Illegitimate practices may try to manipulate unsuspecting patients by quoting a low amount for the procedure and then adding on additional costs. At Refine Clinic, the price of your unique breast surgery will include the cost of the surgeon, the operating theatre, the anaesthesiologist, surgical tools, and more.

The Risks of Breast Augmentation

As with any surgery, there are complications, risks and side effects to be aware of before undergoing a breast augmentation. Thailand may not follow the same stringent rules as Australia does, which is governed by the regulations put in place by the TGA.

Breast surgery is a very delicate procedure, and it should be carefully customised to suit the patient’s unique needs and implant choices. The placement of the implants, the incision site and the shape, size and texture of the actual prosthetic is also important, as it can impact your recovery time. Certain precautions should always be taken before undergoing a cosmetic surgery procedure, and you should take care to find a surgeon that you can trust.

It’s important to remember that even in a top-notch surgical facility, there is a potential for side effects. Surgical risks like infections, haematoma, and anaesthetic trouble are greatly reduced in a regulated and sterile environment. However, other post-op side effects may still present themselves. Be aware of:

  • Hardening of the breast tissue or area around the implants
  • Scarring that is thick, dark or does not fade
  • Capsizing or rotation of the implant
  • Creases, folds or wrinkles that are noticeable beneath the skin
  • Small lumps, often a side effect of leaking, called silicone granulomas
  • Nerve damage to the nipples or the breast tissue
  • Ruptures of the implant, which could lead to leakage or deflation
  • Allergic reactions to the anaesthesia, implants or aftercare
  • Infection, haematoma or other surgical side effects

The likelihood of developing these complications after breast augmentation in Thailand may be greater. Furthermore, they can be more dangerous when contracted in a foreign environment. Patients who have issues with their implants might have to consider a revision breast augmentation to achieve the desired results.

In some cases, this could mean that you’ll have to pay for two procedures – breast augmentation in Thailand and a revision in Sydney – instead of one high-quality cosmetic surgery.

Potential Difficulties to Consider

Breast augmentation in Thailand can present issues aside from the actual surgical environment and recovery process. Another big obstacle to consider is the potential communication barrier that patients could encounter in a foreign country.

When it comes to medicine and cosmetic surgery, being able to speak plainly and fully understand your surgeon, their team and any instructions they provide is of utmost importance. Even if you can partly communicate in the language, conversational knowledge may not be enough to help you understand the different medical techniques your surgeon is explaining.

At Refine Cosmetic Clinic, we not only speak plainly, using layman terms to prevent confusion, our surgeons carefully plan each surgery around the patient. That means your unique needs will be considered to help provide a cosmetic surgery experience that is rewarding for everyone. Plus, a careful approach can help to reduce the risk of post-op issues, and potentially extend the life of your implants.
