What To Expect From A Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedure?
Vaginal rejuvenation can be performed under local or general anaesthetic. The procedure is quite efficient and usually takes around an hour to complete however you may be kept longer for observation
In a surgical procedure, the muscles at the back of your vagina will be shortened and stitched together again using dissolvable stitches. Once the incision has healed any scars will be inside the vagina and not visible. If there is excess skin or vaginal lining, it will be removed. There will be some swelling, bruising and bleeding post-surgery but this will improve in the days following the procedure.
You may find it difficult to walk so you will need to take some time off work to rest and recover.
Results are usually noticeable two to three weeks after a vaginal rejuvenation procedure. you will be able to resume sexual activity four to six weeks later
Laser-assisted Vaginal Rejuvenation
Laser-assisted vaginal rejuvenation procedures are non-surgical and non-invasive and do not require anesthesia.
This means there are no stitches and no scarring and your recovery time is much faster. The procedure is also quicker and can be done in 15-minute sessions. Patients usually have three sessions over a two or three month period and return once a year for maintenance procedures.
While you will be able to return to work after laser-assisted vaginal rejuvenation procedures you are advised not to exercise for the first 24 hours. You should also avoid sexual intercourse for at least five days after the procedure.
Preparing For A Vaginal Rejuvenation
If you are going to be having an anaesthetic you should avoid food and drink for 10 hours prior.
Make sure your home is prepared for you to rest, and that you have some help at your house so you can recover properly. You’ll need to take some time off from work. Discuss this with your surgeon ahead of time so you have an accurate idea of what to expect.
You will also need to avoid sexual intercourse the day before your surgery so that your vaginal tissue is not disturbed.
You will need to have a pregnancy test as vaginoplasty cannot be performed on pregnant women. Your surgeon may also request that you have a PAP smear, blood tests and/or submit samples.
What To Expect After Vaginoplasty?
It’s really important that you follow your surgeon’s recovery instructions so you can speed up healing and avoid complications.
Manage swelling, tenderness and bleeding post-surgery
Swelling and redness should only be present for around a week after your procedure. If it lasts longer than that you should speak to your surgeon. An increase in bleeding should also be reported to your surgeon.
Monitor yourself for signs of an infection
Because of the incision, it is possible for an infection to develop if you do not care for your wound properly. If you notice an increase in swelling or redness or an unusual discharge it could be a sign of an infection.
What Complications Should You Be Aware Of?
Any surgical procedure carries some degree of risk, which needs to be managed accordingly. It’s important that you disclose your full medical history to your surgeon, as well as any medications you might be taking.
How Much Does A Vaginoplasty Cost?
